Meet the board

Meet the boardXK9L9801.JPG

Pareto Fundraising’s board is the company’s driving force and its inspiration. It is made up of the most senior members of staff, who between them have several decades of experience creating and implementing fundraising strategies that have earned dozens of charities worldwide countless millions of dollars to spend on their beneficiaries.

Sean TrinerIMG_1226.jpg

Sean Triner is co-founder, mentor and guiding light of the international Pareto Group of companies – Pareto Fundraising (in Australia, NZ and HK), Pareto Phone and Pareto Works.

Sean has dedicated his career to developing, testing and refining fundraising strategies with some of the UK’s most successful and influential charities.

Among his the notable achievements of his early career, Sean was a pioneer of face to face fundraising, as well as the use of data-driven hyper-personalisation in direct marketing.

In 2002, Sean moved to Australia and joined forces with Australian data-expert, Paul Roberts, to form Pareto Fundraising. Their ambition was to apply what they had learned from years of pushing the boundaries in the UK to help Australia’s best charities increase their income and donor bases beyond their dreams.

Their success in achieving this goal can be measured not only in the number of major charities that quickly adopted Pareto Fundraising as their agency of choice, but more importantly, by the huge increase in revenues and supporters Pareto Fundraising’s clients have enjoyed right across the board.

Whilst the Pareto group of companies utilise Sean’s hyper-personalisation model to revolutionise print and online fundraising, its sister company, Pareto Phone, is doing the same for telephone fundraising – helping clients to raise millions of dollars by mining their donor records to personalise every single phone call.

Within a very short time, Pareto Fundraising and Pareto Phone became two of the most influential not-for-profit marketing agencies in Australia, earning praise from some of the biggest names in the business, including Mal Warwick, who wrote: “The results Sean Triner and his colleagues in Pareto Fundraising have been getting in Australia will shock the stuffing out of you… these young whippersnappers know a lot of stuff that has somehow eluded me all these years.”

Throughout his fundraising career, Sean’s single-minded mission has been to use his strategic expertise to help charities make our world a safer, fairer, healthier and happier place to be. To further this goal, Sean developed Pareto Masterclasses so that he could share the advantages of the Pareto Way with as many worthwhile organisations as possible.

Pareto Masterclasses offer people who work in the not-for-profit sector access to Sean’s fundraising expertise for free or at low cost. Different sessions are offered covering every aspect of Sean’s expertise, from the use of hyper-personalisation, to legacy recruitment, to identifying, targeting and nurturing major donors.

Challenging, fun and always practical, Sean is an energetic speaker who leaves Masterclass attendees inspired, motivated and buzzing with brilliant ideas about how to take their fundraising to the next level.

Paul Roberts

IMG_1214.jpg            Paul is both the co-founder of Pareto Fundraising and Pareto Phone, as well as our resident, world-class data guru.

An experienced and dedicated fundraiser who has worked for the charitable sector since 1992, Paul honed his trade in the UK as well as Australia, where he has achieved record–breaking results with his pioneering use of cutting-edge direct marketing and data analysis techniques.

Paul is a staunch believer in integrated fundraising strategies and his desire to set-up and play a core role in the development of Pareto Phone has been due to this.

Paul believes that: “Charity donors crave real communications and the beauty of the telephone is that it allows you to have a meaningful dialogue with your supporters – you can thank them in a way which is much more personal than direct mail. The flexibility of using the telephone is great too – you can refine both your approach and your targeting as campaigns progress.”

Pareto Phone is very lucky to have Paul’s expertise and commitment, and it is a pleasure to be able to offer our clients the benefits of his data expertise.

Jan ChisholmIMG_1204.jpg

Jan Chisholm was appointed CEO of Pareto Fundraising in June 2005.  Prior to this appointment she held a variety of senior strategic fundraising roles in Australia and the UK dating back to the early 1990’s.

During 2003 – 2005 she was head of development at the Australian Museum in Sydney where she oversaw the development and launch of the President’s Circle, a major donor fundraising group headed by The President of the Museum Trust.

Between 2000 and 2003 she was Fundraising Director for Greenpeace Australia Pacific where she delivered 40% growth in the organisation’s income from individual supporters.

At Pareto Fundraising, as well as managing the business, Jan continued to devote a proportion of her time to working as a Senior Consultant across a range of clients.  She has delivered start-up fundraising strategies, major donor strategy and coaching with CEO’s and board members, advice and consultancy on direct mail, telephone fundraising, bequests And regular giving.

In September 2008, Jan has most recently returned back to the UK and is now our lovely International Development Director.

Why did you set up Pareto Fundraising?

To change the world and making it a better place. We thought we knew more about fundraising than our suppliers, and thought we would give it a go, without any knowledge of whether it would work, or what to actually do. Sean Triner

To raise lots of money for range of charities I believe in. Paul Roberts
