Pareto Talk: Edition Two

Pareto Talk

For those of you that visited our first edition of ‘Pareto talk’, it’s fantastic to have you back. For those first timers – welcome! I do hope you enjoy hearing our collection of Fundraising stories from around the globe. Pareto Talk was launched at the end of last year with the aim of bringing you updates from the Fundraising sector – all the while keeping our ‘headlights’ firmly fixed on the road to making the world a better place. The articles we choose to share with you are and insightful and hope to challenge the way you’ve addressed obstacles in the past.

Jan Chisholm, Pareto Fundraising Australia CEO, is currently on annual leave visiting the UK, so while she’s trying her best not to convert pounds to the Aussie dollar, it’s my absolute pleasure to give you a snapshot of what we’ve collected for your reading enjoyment.

In this edition we shine a flashlight on where charities are letting their donors down by failing to provide basic donor care, and provide 15 easy to implement strategies to treat your donors with the importance they deserve.

We also share a warning to charities thinking of postponing any activities because of the recent disasters in Myanmar and China.

We look at the power of a successful proposition to convert cash donors to loyal regular givers – beneficial for charities big and small; how can registering for SOFII enhance your FR knowledge helping you to shine and form your own opinion about corporate fundraising: beneficial to charities or simply making corporates look good?

Cheers and happy reading!

Behold the key proposition: the secret of converting cash donors to regular givers

By Jen Gould

Fact: The lifetime value of a Regular Giver (RG) is far greater than someone who is asked for cash donations.

Fact: Charities that focus on acquiring and recruiting Regular Givers grow fast, with regular giving providing greater opportunities to build and nurture a strong charity-supporter relationship over time.

So what’s the secret – how do we capitalise on....

Corporate Fundraising – Beneficial to charities or just making corporate look good?

By Dominique Antarakis

They arrived armed with props – a big stick, a pink wig, a bar of soap, a bottle of water – to argue the proposition Corporate fundraising – beneficial to charities or just making corporates look good?

First in to bat was Mei Ling Ho, from United Way. Ho maintained that not only is the corporate sector responsible for a considerable slice of the fundraising pie, accounting for $3.3 billion out of the $11 billion raised each year, “the opportunities are huge, and charities need to capitalise”.

“There’s enormous growth potential, and if you look at the fact that....

Tsunami Suicide and the Earthquake in China

By Martin Paul and Sean Triner

Our sympathies and thoughts go out to the millions of people affected by the two shocking and tragic events in Myanmar and China in recent weeks.

The devastation, and the support from the international community, brings back memories of the Asian Tsunami in December 2004 and the extraordinary response from the public with billions of dollars in donations.

In fact, at that time the response was so overwhelming that many charities – particularly ones....
